Multiculturism

The past two weeks we have been discussing multiculturism in class. Although I was aware of some of these issues, hearing everyone's stories and different situations has really put it in perspective to me how this is a really huge problem that we as Americans need to overcome. I feel the need to inform people in my community of some of these issues to help them with their closemindedness towards different cultures and ethnic groups. I am really hoping that in the future, people will be more educated about the different cultures and ethnic groups and that we will all be treated, and treat others equally.

  1. Hi Lanisha,

This is a good post. Your desire to go back to your community and teach them what you have learned is a noble one, and I hope that you will be successful, even in a very small way.

If the community you are talking about is the town where you live (where people often wear more than one hat because of the small population), you might want to figure out who would support you in this endeavor. If there is a public library in your town, see what books and other resources they have that would address multiculturalism, tolerance, interfaith relations, etc.. If they have those resources, talk to the librarian in charge. Quite often public libraries do a great deal of education through displays of their resources on a subject, book discussion groups, film screenings, or other activities. Just a thought...might be a safe place to start.
